Continuing our discussion on the topic of filtering, we defined another simple filter, called "filter B", and analysed its properties using the concept of frequency response and transfer function. We then considered the general class of LTI systems defined by constant coefficients difference equations. We observed that, when N time-delayed output y[n-k] occurs in the equation, then the system is not uniquely determined by the difference equations. We then noted three different ways to uniquely determine the system (initial values for the output; initial values for h[n]; causality; ROC of transfer function).
