Practice Problem: normalizing the probability mass function of a discrete random variable


A random variable X has the following probability mass function:

$ p_X (k) = \frac{C}{3^{|k|}}, \text{ for } k \in {\mathbb Z}, $

where C is a constant. Find the value of the constant C.
