ECE264 Students: you must consider this!

Setting up Wubi/Ubuntu:

So one of the things I felt that every student aspiring to become a epic programmer should give up the life of windows or at least half. I mean linux isn't that bad right?

There is a program out there that actually simplifies partitioning space on your hard drive and sets up ubuntu.

Ubuntu offers Kate a great editor for programmer as well as a clean interface.

Ubuntu also makes you work with terminal for the most part. I switched to Ubuntu because I can properly debug with it instead of relying on putty.

Debugging with gdb is like taking a plane vs. walking to Los Angelos according to prof Lu.

Here is a link but it can always change (Google ftw*):

http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/alternative-download

The alternatives require a torrent application, I would go with utorrent on this one.

  • Trying to install it from the Ubuntu site gave me problems so I recommend the site I provided or the Wubi site.

Installing Wubi (In case any problems do occur):

I recommend looking at this site here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WubiGuide
