Professional Statement – Mike Kobit

After 4 years of school at Purdue University, I believe that I have developed the necessary skills necessary to make an impact in today’s work force. Some of these skills are teamwork, communication, programming, logical thinking, and dedication. These skills have been developed by classes, peers, and work.

The classes that I have taken during the time have taught me the basics of design and have also spiked my interest for development. These classes provided experience in embedded systems, logic design, mobile applications, web design, algorithms, game design, and low level circuit design. The various classes and topics have given me a wide range of experience as well as broadened my view of the different areas of computer design.

Being able to consult and work with peers on different projects, such as developing a multi-core CPU and writing a fast-food nutrition application for Android, I have always accomplished and learned more with a team than I would have by myself. It is important to work with other people because they see problems from a different perspective, and sometimes that perspective leads to a better solution.

I have also been able to develop through various work opportunities, both at school and a summer internship. Last summer, I acquired a software development position at Amazon. This job required teamwork, dedication, and huge amounts of communication. Also, over the past year I have been a teaching assistant for an introductory programming course for engineers. Teaching requires communicating ideas and also being a leader to a group of peers.

These are just a few of the reasons that I am ready to join the work force and start on my career. I have developed the skills and tools to prove myself more than capable in the industry, and my curiosity and dedication proves that I will be an asset to any company that I work for.
