On Mathematical Geniuses

Mathematics is considered more "selective", it a sense that it is socially acceptable for someone to express their inaptitude in mathematical subjects without garnering pitiful eyes from another. Statements like "I'm not a math person- math just does not come to me." is often told to another while "I'm illiterate- reading just does not come to me" would stir sympathy.

I am inclined to believe that mathematics is a skill rather than a talent, but to what extent can we ascribe innate talent to the great products of mathematics?
