Advice from students

  1. Don't panic!
  2. Do past quals.  Figure out which problems you know and which you don't.

  3. Bell's notes are online.  He also posts past in-class exam solutions.
  4. Set a designated study time and area.
  5. Study in groups if possible.
  6. Categorize the problems by type.  Figure out which areas you need to focus on.
  7. Figure out which problems to expect from a specific professor and DO THEIR QUALS.
  8. Try to take the course with the professor giving the qual.
  9. Get a mentor and talk to them about exam information and life.
  10. Don't study all the time. Take breaks.
  11. Set a schedule for what to go through when.
  12. Don't cram.
  13. Look over homework from the exam writer(s).
