Cov(X,Y) = E[XY] - E[X}*E[Y]

correlation coeff = Cov(X,Y) / sqrt(Var(X))*sqrt(Var(Y))

X & Y independent: E[XY] = E[X}*E[Y] ie Cov(X,Y)=0
